How to choose a phone that’s easy to use
The best phone is one you’re comfortable using every day. Here’s what matters most when ease of use is the priority.
A big, bright screen
A larger screen makes text, buttons and photos easier to see. If you can, hold a few phones in a store to find a size that’s comfortable in your hand.
Bigger text and simpler menus
Every modern smartphone lets you make text and icons bigger in its settings. Some go further. Samsung phones have an Easy Mode with larger icons and a simpler layout, and iPhones offer Assistive Access, a simplified home screen with large buttons for the most important apps.
Hearing aid support
If you wear hearing aids, look for a phone rated as hearing aid compatible. Many phones can also connect directly to modern Bluetooth hearing aids, sending calls straight to your ears.
Protection from scam calls
Spam and scam calls are a real problem. Many phones and carriers include tools that flag or block suspected scam calls. Google Pixel phones, for example, can screen unknown callers for you.
Good battery life
A phone that lasts all day means less worry about charging. Look for reviews that mention battery life with normal use.
Help when you need it
